Early Literay Programs

Westlock Libraries has various free early literacy programs for children from ages 0 to 5 years.  Programs run during the school year.  Our Summer Reading Clubs continue the early literacy journey July and August.  Check our Events posting to see when programs start.

  • Baby Jumpstart: a partnership program with Each One Teach One and Parent Link for babies. It is an opportunity to share special times with baby by participating in sensory activities and exploration through the use of books, rhymes, songs, and activities in order to stimulate brain development and promote early literacy in a fun social environment.  Parent/Caregiver participation required.
  • Toddler Tales: stories, songs and rhymes to enlighten and entice early literacy skills in children 18 months (or when they are walking) to 3 years of age.  Parent/Caregiver participation required.
  • Read With Me: a program for 3 to 5 year olds that entices and promotes early literacy skills necessary for school readiness. Story telling, MakerSpace activities and a take-away package (that allows you to continue working on promoting early literacy skills at home).  If you child has missed a session, you can ask the library staff for the take-away package.  Parent/Caregiver participation required.
  • Mother Goose: is a partnership program with Each One Teach One for children 0 to 3 years and parents/caregivers that promotes early literacy skills through rhythm and song.  Parent/Caregiver participation required.
