Library materials you can borrow...

Nearly 20,000 items—books (regular, large print & audio format), magazines, DVDs, videos, music on CD and software) are available at the Westlock Library

If the item you want is out…

You can place a hold yourself using the on-line catalogue at the library, at home or you may ask a staff member for assistance. The library offers two convenient ways to notify you of your holds– email or phone.

Items not available through TRAC (The Regional Automation Consortium) may be obtained with interlibrary loan from TAL (the Alberta Library). Library staff are available to assist with ordering materials either in person, by phone 780-349-3060 or email.


Loan Periods

All circulating resources are loaned in accordance with the Westlock Libraries Bylaw Schedule C:

Print Items: Standard Loan: 3 weeks Renewal limit: 2

Includes: hardcover, paperback, large print, oversize, non-reference atlases, picture books, combined item kits, graphic novels & comic-books
Excludes: Newspapers & Magazines

Magazines: Standard Loan: 1 week Renewal limit: 2

Includes: magazines and periodicals

Audio Items: Standard Loan: 3 weeks Renewal limit: 2

Includes: music CDs, audio books, CD ROM software

E-Downloads: Standard Loan: 2 weeks Renewal limit: 0

Includes: OverDrive items such as E-books, E-audio downloads

Audio Visuals: Standard Loan: 1 week Renewal limit: 2

Includes: DVD, BluRay

Equipment: Standard Loan: variable Renewal limit: variable*

As per Schedule F: Service & Equipment Fees for specific devices and loan periods

NOTE:
  • Special Services cardholders may have extended loan periods for borrowed items (double the standard loan period); however, standard renewal limits apply.
  • Extension to standard renewal limits will be at the discretion of the Librarian.
  • A maximum limit of 10 DVD and/or BluRay items may be borrowed at any one time by any one patron.

How to Renew Items

There are several ways to renew items:
  • Visit us at the library and ask staff to renew items on your account,
  • Go online to TRAC Pac, log onto your account, select "items out", and renew items coming due,
  • Phone the library at 780-349-3060, ask staff to renew or leave a message after-hours,
  • Email us and ask us to renew specific items on your account.

To log onto TRAC you will need your 14-digit library card barcode and your PIN (usually assigned as the last 4 digits of your phone number)


Late Fines

Borrowing privileges are suspended when account fines exceed $10. Fines must be cleared in order to re-activate borrowing privileges. Payment must be made in person and can be paid by cash, cheque, debit card or credit card. Only the Library Director is authorized to waive or negotiate reduction of fines or to seek alternative avenues of clearing accounts.Late Fines can be avoided by returning or renewing items on or before their due date.

Late Fines are automatically billed to your account for each item that has not been returned by its due date. Fines are charged for each day late.

Books, Audio-Books, Magazines — $0.25 per day up to $10.00
DVDs — $1.00 per day up to $10.00

Item Replacement Charges

Do not allow others to borrow items on your account. You are responsible for all items borrowed on your card and will be held accountable for late, lost or damaged item fines.

Lost Fines are billed at the cost of item replacement.  Items are considered lost 3 months after the check out date. 
Damaged Item Fines are billed at the cost of item replacement. Biling occurs the day after the item is returned damaged.
