Friends of the Library

The Friends of the Westlock Public Library Society consists of volunteers who are passionate supporters of our library. They are a registered society that is dedicated to helping make the library a comfortable space, and they help us to make information and knowledge easily accessible in the community. The Friends are first and foremost frequent library users, but they are also active in areas of fundraising, advocacy and staff support. They work together with staff and trustee members to promote our library and it's many programs.

Friends provide financial support for library projects, programs, and services. They raise money through donations, raffles, casinos and book-sales. The Friends also accept donations of recyclable bottles and cans and forward the proceeds to the "Bottles for Books" program. They manage a coffee bar in the "Friends Library Lounge" area, a welcoming space to visit with friends or relax with a book.

Friends also give back to the community. In 2013, the Friends established a philanthropic scholarship program that awards two local area students with a bursary of $500 each. The "Friends of the Westlock Library Dedicated Student Award" is presented to students who show a consistent effort and a positive attitude towards study, not necessarily reflected in final grades, with a focus on arts and culture.
