3D Printing

The Westlock Library is happy to provide a 3D printing service for Westlock Libraries Patrons. You must have an active Westlock Libraries Card to request a 3D print. Library cards are free for residents of the Town and County of Westlock.

How to Get Started

If you don't want to create your own design, you can look online for one that someone else has made. Some sites that offer files for 3D printing include:ThingiversePrintablesThangsCults3D

There are many programs you can use to create your own design, but for starting out we recommend TinkerCAD.com. All you need is an email address to create a free account. If you are more comfortable with 3D modelling there are other programs such as: AutoCAD, Blender, Leopoly, Meshmixer, and Sketchup.

Printing Details

Our 3D Printer is an Ender-3 V3 KEThe print bed is 220mm long(x), 220mm wide(y) and 240mm high(z)We are currently offering PLA filamentOur 3D printer can only print one color at a time.

We charge 10 cents a gram. Our printing software will calculate the final weight, in grams, of the item. We can’t guarantee that every file submitted will be printed successfully.

Guidelines to read before submitting your print:

  • All print jobs are subject to Westlock Library staff approval, and we reserve the right to deny any print job.

  • Staff will not make modifications to a file on your behalf. Any files we receive are assumed to be final versions and ready to print. If your print request exceeds our print bed we can scale it down.

  • No one is permitted to print material that is:

    • Prohibited by local, provincial or federal law (i.e.. weapons etc.)
    • Unsafe, harmful, dangerous, or poses a threat to the well-being of others.
    • Infringes on copyright, patent, trademark or intellectual property rights.

  • We use Creality Print Slicing software and files must be submitted in .stl format.
